To make Maine a national leader in the Adult Use Cannabis space by advocating for a regulatory environment that protects local businesses and consumers and fosters a diverse and vibrant cannabis business community.
CannabisME works in a non-partisan manner with our members, policy members, partners and the public to:
Monitor
current state legislation that affects the adult use cannabis community in Maine.
Educate
policy makers and government agencies on needs, challenges, and legislative priorities specific to businesses operating in the adult use cannabis space.
Inform
our membership and the general public on current legislation that may affect the adult use cannabis industry and consumers in Maine.
Collaborate
with partners, policymakers and other organizations for positive outcomes for Maine adult use cannabis businesses and consumers.
Maine’s adult use cannabis market is a significant economic driver in the state.
There are 114 adult use cultivation facilities, 116 adult use product manufacturing facilities and 223 adult use retail stores operating across the state from Grand Isle to Kittery and Southwest Harbor to Fryberg. They employ thousands of Maine residents. Annual revenues from adult use cannabis businesses have doubled year after year since first legal sales in 2020. In 2023, adult use cannabis businesses are on track to generate over $200M dollars in revenue. Annual revenues are expected to exceed $350M by 2025. Economists estimate that for every $1 consumers spend at adult use retail stores, an additional $2.50 of economic value is injected into the economy – much of it at the local level. That is $500M dollars of economic value in 2023 alone. Last year, adult use cannabis businesses paid the state over $28M dollars in sales, excise tax, and license fees. Maine Revenue Services estimates that the total tax revenues and licensing fees from adult use cannabis businesses will exceed $40M in 2025.
